Just Got PCS Orders? Your Pet Shipping Checklist for the First Week

PCS Moves · 5 min read · Updated October 11, 2026

The first week after orders sets the pace for your whole move. These steps keep your pet's travel from becoming the last-minute problem.

Day 1–2: Know where your pet is going

Inside the continental U.S., we move pets by private ground transport. Hawaii, Germany and the United Kingdom need cargo-airline coordination and longer paperwork timelines. Other destinations need a specialist review before anyone can quote.

Write down your report date, your household-goods pickup date and when your family is leaving. Your coordinator plans pet travel around those dates.

Day 3–4: Measure your pet

Measure your pet's height standing and length nose to base of tail. Crate size affects both safety and cost, and an undersized crate can stop an airline shipment.

Use our dog crate size guide to estimate the right kennel before you buy one.

Day 5–7: Book the vet and request your quote

Ask your vet about microchip, rabies records and health certificates. Hawaii and international moves can need tests or waiting periods that take months, so ask right away.

Request your pet transport quote with your route, travel date and pet basics. A coordinator reviews it and prepares your written quote.

Frequently asked questions

How early should I request a pet transport quote after PCS orders?

As soon as you know your destination. Hawaii, Germany and United Kingdom moves can need several months of paperwork, and ground transport calendars fill up during summer PCS season.

Do I need my exact travel date to request a quote?

No. An approximate date is enough to start. Your coordinator confirms timing before the final written quote.
