Frequently asked questions

How much does it cost to ship a dog to the UK?+

Expect $2,500 to $6,600 depending on crate size, with crate, freight and paperwork included. Heathrow Animal Reception Centre fees and USDA endorsement are passed through at cost.

Is there quarantine for pets entering the UK?+

No, provided the microchip, rabies vaccination, APHIS-endorsed GB health certificate and (for dogs) the tapeworm treatment are all correct. Missing paperwork means detention at the reception centre until it is resolved.

Can my pet fly in the cabin to the UK?+

No. The UK requires pets to arrive as manifest cargo on an approved route into a Border Control Post such as the Heathrow Animal Reception Centre.

What is the tapeworm rule for dogs?+

Dogs must be treated with a praziquantel product by a vet between 24 and 120 hours before arrival in the UK, with the treatment recorded on the health certificate. Cats are exempt.

Which crate does the UK require?+

An IATA kennel with ventilation on all four sides, metal-bolted assembly and a metal-grille door. Your dog must stand fully upright with ears clear of the roof. We fit and supply it.
